A Beautiful and Historic Location

Since 1921, the James J. Hill Reference Library has been a magnificent living monument to “The Empire Builder,” James J. Hill. Constructed of Tennessee Marble and Minnesota Sandstone, the Library is located on picturesque Rice Park in downtown Saint Paul. With its historical intrigue and awe-inspiring beauty, the James J. Hill Reference Library creates an absolutely striking atmosphere for any event.

Boasting several distinctive settings that can accommodate groups of all sizes, the James J. Hill Reference Library is the perfect venue. The Hill Conference Room is a quiet, intimate space sprinkled with Hill memorabilia and is suitable for meetings.The Empire Builder Room is a lovely, wood paneled space to hold smaller meetings or ceremonies. Finally, Hill’s majestic Reading Room is an incomparably beautiful space, perfect for corporate events, parties and fabulous wedding receptions! The atmosphere of the Library, especially in the evening, is breathtaking.

The Hill Library has an open food catering policy; you can hire any licensed and insured caterer. Alcohol is dispensed by Mintahoe Beverages.
